EC URGED TO BE MORE CAREFUL

MUAR, Wed- Tangkak Assemblyman Datuk Yap Chik Dong today urged the Election Commission to be more careful in preparing the electoral roll to avoid slip-ups.

He said he was not informed that his name was transferred back to his constituency after it was mistakenly transferred to Negri Sembilan.

"I am relieved and I hope that the EC will learn from this mistake which had caused me sleepless nights," he said.

EC chairman Tan Sri Ab. Rashid Ab. Rahman had said that Yap's name had been transferred back to his constituency following his police report and a complaint to the commission.

Yap's nama had earlier been transferred to the Bagan Pinang(State) and Telok Kemang (parliamentary) constituencies. He was supposed to cast his vote at the Si Rusa polling station in Negeri Sembilan.

Yap, who is MCA Ledang division chief, said it was the responsibility of the EC to right the wrong.

He said although the issue was considered closed, a thorough investigation should be carried out by police and the EC.

"We should not simply sweep the issue under the carpet just because the EC had reinstated my name in Tangkak.

"The EC created the issue and now I want to know what actually happened," he said.
