Dato' Hj. Jamdin started his career in 1963 as a new caster with Radio Sabah Times. He later joined the Chief Minister’s Department and served the government in various capacities. Amongst the important posts he held include:

1977 - 81 : Head, National Language Bureau
1981 - 94 : Principal Assistant Director, National Language
1994 - 96 : Director, Sabah Museum
1996 - 2000 : Director, Islamic Affairs, Sabah
2000 - 01 : Press Secretary to Chief Minister
2001 - 02 : Director, Government Printers Sabah
2002 - now : Member of Election Commission of Malaysia.

He also served on a voluntary basis on several committees in connection with language, literature and culture.
