COMMISSION ENDORSES ADDITIONAL ELECTORAL ROLL

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has endorsed an additional electoral roll of registered voters for the first quarter of this year.

Its public relations officer Sabri Said said the roll contained the names of 172,127 voters, 141,553 of whom were newly registered ones and 30,574 were applications to change their voting address.

The roll will be gazetted today. “The EC has omitted 68,671 names from the record of registered voters for reasons such as change of address, death or citizenship status being revoked.

“In addition, the EC also received 29,450 applications for change of address, which could not be resolved because there were various claims and protests. This will be dealt with in the second quarter,” Sabri said in a statement here yesterday.

He added that the commission would also like the kin of those who had recently died to send copies of the death certificates or permits to omit their names from the electoral roll.

“They can fax in the copies or go to the state EC office or headquarters here. Voters are also encouraged to check their details on the electoral roll for any mistake that the EC could have committed inadvertently. The voters can make corrections by e-mailing to spr@spr.gov.my,” Sabri said.
