N. 12 Penanti, Pulau Pinang by election was held following the resignation of its elected representative, Y.B Encik Mohammad Fairus bin Khairuddin on 19 March 2009. EC had its meeting on the 22nd of April and decided on the following dates:

(ii) Date of Issuance of Writ: 27 April 2009
(iii) Date of Issuance of Notice : 30 April 2009
(iv) Date of Nomination of Candidates: 23 May 2009
(v) Date of Election: 31 May 2009

The Electoral Roll used was updated and re-gazetted on the 18th of February 2009, containing 15,384 ordinary voters, which consists of 15,360 ordinary voters and 24 postal voters.
